Rangers are set to offer a new contract to young attacker Ross McCausland to extend his stay at Ibrox, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The transfer specialist took to Twitter on Thursday (19 October) to report that the Light Blues were eager to extend the attacker’s stay in Glasgow beyond the end of the season, when his current deal at Ibrox runs out, having impressed in recent weeks.
McCausland is only 20 years old but has come off the bench in both of Rangers’ last two matches, playing 49 minutes in the Gers’ 3-0 win over St Mirren before the October international break as well as making a short cameo in the Light Blues’ Europa League defeat to Aris Limassol.
The winger is a project of the Rangers academy and signed his last contract at Ibrox in 2021, but with less than a year remaining on his current deal and given his impressive performances during Steven Davis’ tenure as interim boss, the Light Blues are keen to tie him down to a new deal.
House in order
Most of Rangers’ focus in the last few weeks has been on recruiting a new manager to succeed Michael Beale at Ibrox, but now that Philippe Clement has been appointed, the Light Blues can get their house in order and offer McCausland a new deal in an excellent start.
The 20-year-old winger has shown plenty of talent in his brief cameos so far this season and looks more than capable of being an integral figure to the Light Blues not only in the future but also for the remainder of this season.
Against St Mirren, no player created more chances for either side than the Northern Irish winger’s three, with every one of the 20-year-old passes into the final third creating a goal-scoring opportunity for one of his teammates, while he impressed in defence with three ball recoveries.
Throughout the early stages of the season, Rangers have lacked a threat from the wings having allowed Ryan Kent to leave on a free transfer at the end of last season and in the early flashes that supporters have seen from McCausland, he could well be the man to fill that void.
Should the contract be agreed and a deal be signed, this would be an excellent first piece of business in the Clement era at Ibrox.
