NEWS TIME: Erik Spoelstra officially declares that the Miami Heat have texted and called Victor Oladipo. “He belongs to the Heat family.

Erik Spoelstra stated that guard Victor Oladipo of the Houston Rockets, who played for the Miami Heat organization for three seasons, is still a part of the Heat family and that the team has communicated with him via FaceTime and text messages.

You really root for him because he’s had so many setbacks and has handled them all with such inspiring grace, Spoelstra said. We remain in communication with him. All you want is for him to be well enough to go out and make a contribution.

The head coach of Miami also discussed how difficult it was to deal Oladipo to the Oklahoma City Thunder back in July.

These are difficult choices for an organization to make, especially when dealing with individuals that are highly regarded,” he stated. That’s our perception of Vic. He belongs to the Heat family. In one way or another, we want to see him return.

Spoelstra added that the 31-year-old has a very upbeat personality.

He remarked, “You could only understand this incredible positive spirit and his fortitude if you’ve been around him.”

In closing, he disclosed how the Heat have managed to maintain communication with Oladipo.

Due to a left patellar tendon injury he sustained in April while still a member of the Heat, Oladipo hasn’t played in a single game during the 2023–24 regular season.

He averaged 10.7 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game while shooting 39.7 percent from the field and 33.0 percent from behind the 3-point arc in 42 games with the Heat during the 2022–2023 regular season.

The guard’s current squad hasn’t had the same level of success as the Heat have this season as a whole. Houston is at 18-16, and Miami is at 20-15.

Despite this, the Rockets have had a successful season thus far. With just 22 wins at the end of the 2022–23 regular season, Houston has already nearly surpassed its regular-season win total from the previous campaign.

Houston has an outstanding 15-6 home record, demonstrating their superior performance at home this season. However, as seen by their dismal 3-10 road record, the Rockets have truly struggled to win games away from home.
