The Los Angeles Lakers’ loss marks the beginning of D’Angelo Russell’s departure from lakers
With a 106-103 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday night, the Los Angeles Lakers returned to winning ways. Being able to defeat the rival Clippers—who are playing well—was a positive step for the Lakers, who have had a terrible few weeks.
It was difficult to ignore the stench surrounding the Lakers, even following a promising victory. With D’Angelo Russell at the core of things, this team still doesn’t seem to be clicking or to have faith in its head coach.
Generally speaking, this wouldn’t be a big deal. It is not mandatory for players to speak with the media following every match; if we did, we would be writing about it on a daily basis. But in light of everything that has transpired, this is a different situation.
Let’s go all the way back to the Lakers’ 2023 summer offseason, when Russell was re-signed. Russell waived his trade kicker in exchange for the Lakers paying slightly more than market value. By acting in this way, Russell and the Lakers effectively implied that a trade could occur during the middle of the season.
In December of that year, head coach Darvin Ham made the decision to take Russell off the bench. We know that after rumors surfaced during the previous season’s playoffs that the team was afraid of “losing him” with the season on the line, Russell may not be the best person to receive this news.
D’Lo doesn’t appear to be in a good mood.
