Liverpool have made an offer for Franck Kessie to put Inter Milan’s attempts to sign the Barcelona midfielder in doubt, according to reports.

The Reds are looking to boost the the quality and depth of their midfield this summer after a disappointing 2022/23 season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side finished fifth in the Premier League, missing out on Champions League football next season, and failing to win a major trophy.

The Liverpool midfield took a lot of the blame for below-par performances and now Klopp is looking to improve that area of his team after allowing James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain leave the club on free transfers.

They have already been linked with numerous new midfielders and Kessie – who has been linked with Manchester United and Chelsea – is now the latest name on their list.

And now Inter Live claim that Liverpool are ‘ready to make themselves the undisputed queen of the summer transfer window’ as they look to ‘implement a real revolution’ over the next few months.

The report insists that Inter could be ‘mocked’ by the Premier League side with a swap deal for Kessie, which would see Marcelo Brozovic go to Barcelona, ‘at risk’ with Liverpool ready to ‘blitz with cash offer’.

They claim that Klopp ‘kills’ Inter with Liverpool making an offer of between €35-40m (£30m-£35m) and, with the Serie A side not willing to make up their ‘offer entirely in cash’, the Nerazzurri could lose out on Kessie.

Klopp isn’t only looking at improving the Liverpool midfield with rumours he could add a new central defender to his ranks.

And former Liverpool centre-back Jamie Carragher reckons moving Joel Matip on to bring in a new left-sided defender would be a good idea.

“I look at the defence and I think Joel Matip now has got a year to go,” Carragher told Redmen Plus.

If you got £10million, whatever the price may be, it’s probably right to move on. I do think we need a left-sided defender, a left-footed centre-back. A lot of teams have them, we don’t.

“A left-sided player would add something. Rather than getting a left-back because I don’t think we will, if we are going to continue with this formation now, (we should be) buying someone in that area, a centre-back who can do the full-back role. I definitely think a left-sided centre-back who can do that left-back job.”
