NEWS UPDATE: Jordan Montgomery signed a formal contract with the New York Mets.

Top MLB insiders say that although the front staff of the New York Mets is publicly stating that they will not be making any more big transactions before the season begins in March, there are probably within discussions about taking the opposite action.

Teams like the Mets are getting ready for the upcoming season as MLB spring training 2024 gets begin. With the signing of league great Justin Verlander and the team coming off of a 101-win season, there was a lot of optimism around the franchise this time last year. But Verlander and Max Scherzer are no longer with the squad because they were a huge letdown.

However, the organisation chose to replace such gaps with journeymen like Sean Manea and Luis Severino rather than using their money to fill them. What exacerbates the situation is that, despite star pitcher Kodai Senga suffering a significant injury that will keep him out of action for two months in 2024, there are rumours that the team will not sign one of the outstanding free-agent pitchers.

Could the New York Mets soon sign Jordan Montgomery?

Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman, MLB insiders for the New York Post, asserted on Tuesday that although the New York Mets are claiming one thing, they are actually discussing something else “behind the scenes.” Sherman argued that the team should sign Jordan Montgomery, a veteran from the Yankees, in a recent episode of their podcast. “Because, as of right now, I would contend, it works for their goal both now and tomorrow.”

Subsequently, the two baseball reporters asserted that although the organisation is being cautious in public, they are absolutely considering signing a player such as Montgomery when they visit the team’s facilities in Florida for spring training.

Heyman said, “I think the Mets are talking about it behind the scenes, even though I know they are not doing anything.” Sherman answered, “They are definitely talking about it behind the scenes,” in response to this.
