NEWS UPDATE: journalists, Philippe Clement definitely signed his first contract at Ibrox….

Journalist Joshua Barrie reports that Philippe Clement will “definitely” be trying to sign a right-sided winger when the transfer window opens.

After taking Michael Beale’s place at Ibrox, Clement has had an incredible debut, winning four of his first five games and drawing one.

Under Clement, a number of players have started from scratch, including as winger Scott Wright, who scored in Sunday’s 3-1 victory over Hearts on November 5.

Though the Gers already have some wide options, Barrie thinks they could improve in that area come January.

“I definitely think that, although Clement says he’s happy to work with the players he’s got, and I don’t think he’ll be as hands-on from a recruitment focus, I expect he’ll be looking at that squad thinking I need players, especially in the right-sided position,” Barrie stated in an interview with Rangers Review podcast [6 November, 11m 55s].

Since taking over at Rangers, Clement has favored a 4-2-3-1 style and has rotated his attacking midfielders on the right.

Wright took Todd Cantwell’s place at halftime in the Scottish League Cup semi-final match between Hearts and himself.

Rabbi Matondo can also play that position and will shortly return from an injury; Sam Lammers has also been utilized in that capacity.

Clement appears to have alternatives for the time being, but should the proper solutions become available, it seems that the wide regions need to be improved.

However, as Danilo’s recent form turnaround has shown, things can change quickly and allay worries over the center-forward position.

Wright, Lammers, Cantwell, or any other player, the Rangers currently have enough quality choices to maintain this momentum.

When the transfer window opens in January, Clement will be aiming to make his first signing with some financial support.
