C have agreed personal terms with Liverpool defender Nat Phillips after doing the same with Chelsea’s Ethan Ampadu, claim Last Word on Sports.
The news outlet [17 July] has reported, per their sources, that an agreement has been reached with the 26-year-old but not with the Reds.
There’s understood to be no discussion yet about whether or not they’re willing to match Liverpool’s asking rate.
With Ampadu looking 95 per cent done, it remains to be seen if the Whites will be paying relatively big money for another centre-back.
Had they still been a Premier League club, the finances would not be a concern but for Championship standards, it might be a bit much.
Also, most of Leeds’ exits this summer have not fetched any transfer fees as they have left on loan.
Rodrigo, who sealed a permanent exit, had his release clause triggered and that was not money they’ll be particularly impressed with.
Liverpool know that the 26-year-old is surplus to requirements but he constitutes as homegrown and has proven himself in England in the past.
Thus, it remains to be seen if they do end up negotiating his transfer fee or they’re hell-bent on their current valuation.
