If Leeds United win their compensation case against Everton, it “could be fatal in the EFL”, according to Football League Paper journalist Chris Dunlavy.
Writing in the print edition of the Football League Paper on Sunday (26 November, page seven), Dunlavy reported that Leeds, Burnley and Leicester’s pursuit of a combined £300million due to Everton’s breach of Premier League financial rules is “understandable” because the Toffees stayed up by the skin of their teeth at the expense of those clubs, costing them millions.
However, it is understood that in the EFL, a successful compensation claim would “set a very dangerous precedent” as punishments for financial breaches are more common.
Dunlavy uses Reading as an example for their breaches of profit and sustainability rules because they would have no doubt disadvantaged clubs in the Championship. It is understood that any claim about them “could be fatal
If the club doesn’t win promotion this season for whatever reason, a £100million boost from suing Everton would go a long way to helping them go back up to the Premier League next season.

It’s unfortunate that it’s affected the fans in such a horrible way but it’s not Leeds’ cross bear. It’s all down to them and if other clubs follow suit and sue Reading for staying in the Championship while they broke financial rules, them’s the breaks.
From Leeds’ point of view, they are a Championship club right now because Everton cheated in the Premier League by spending more money than they were meant to.
