NEWS UPDATE: Liverpool have completely changed their mind about £50m player now

Liverpool have reportedly changed their stance on signing Romeo Lavia for £50m, with the Reds now open to the idea of paying this much for the Southampton star.

According to journalist Neil Jones, the Anfield side originally saw Lavia’s asking price of £50m as excessive, yet the sales of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson have since changed this stance.

Not only have Liverpool got money to spend on a new midfielder, but the need to now sign a player in this position has greatly amplified, with Lavia arguably the best option in the market for what the Reds are looking for.

As a result, Liverpool’s next bid for Lavia could finally match Southampton’s demands, with the Merseyside giants already having three offers rejected by the Saints for the midfielder.

Jones said: “Liverpool sources were saying earlier in the summer that £50m for Lavia was excessive, but that was before the departures of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson amplified their need for a midfielder.

“I get the impression that the club have looked at the market for potential No.6s/deep-lying midfielders and have not been too impressed, hence the fact they’ve circled back to Lavia.”

Liverpool should have matched Lavia’s asking price from the start

A lot has been said over Liverpool’s pursuit for Lavia, with many fans and pundits taking issue over how tight the Rds have chosen to be with their funds for the midfielder.

Whilst £50m is an excessive sum, Liverpool have now come to the realisation that they won’t find any one better as young or as good in the market than Lavia.

Meaning, Liverpool should have just paid Southampton’s asking price for Lavia right from the start, with the Reds losing valuable ground in the race for the midfielder ahead of the new season.
