This season, there has been much discussion about a potential trade that could send Zach LaVine, an All-Star guard, to the Lakers. It usually feels like there is fire nearby when there is this much smoke, and that is also the case here.
In a recent article co-written with colleague Jovan Buha, Chicago Bulls insider Darnell Mayberry of The Athletic predicts that the two parties will eventually reach an agreement on a trade. This might be for DeMar DeRozan or LaVine as the main attraction when they return to Los Angeles.
The biggest obstacle to any agreement, according to Mayberry, is determining what the Lakers would be prepared to give up or even trade. The Bulls may have to settle for what they can get in LA because the city doesn’t have many excellent players.
Given that the market is currently rather dry, this becomes particularly true in the event of a possible LaVine trade. This season, it might come down to the All-Star guard or the Lakers. His contract may also present challenges because the Lakers would rather avoid long-term obligations.
Mayberry and Lakers Insider Jovan Buha of The Athletic both agreed that it might take another team to pull off this trade.
Bringing in a third or fourth team could make it easier to reach an agreement where all sides are satisfied. However, LaVine seems as though she might be moving to Los Angeles in the coming weeks.
The two teams have some time to work things out before the trade deadline in early February. However, it seems unlikely that the LaVine to Lakers rumors will end anytime soon.
The Chicago Bulls and the Lakers will play their first-ever game of the season tonight at 5 p.m. PT, despite LaVine’s absence.
