Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad have been aggressive in their approach to sign Mohamed Salah from Liverpool.
The likes of Neymar, Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante have joined Cristiano Ronaldo in making the switch to the Gulf state. Kylian Mbappe rejected the chance to join the elite group in moving to Saudi Arabia earlier this summer.
But the Saudis aren’t content as they’ve since moved their focus to Liverpool superstar Salah. Al Ittihad had been making a strong pitch to try and sign Salah despite Jurgen Klopp’s insistence that the player was not for sale.
And the Saudi Pro League side made a formal bid worth up to £150m on Friday, just hours before the Premier League deadline. Liverpool immediately rejected the offer with no inclination that they’d accept an improved bid either.
Salah is also reportedly not pushing for a move away from Anfield, despite the huge contract he’s being offered. The Egypt international is Liverpool’s highest-paid player on wages worth around £350,000-a-week.
But Liverpool may be able to rest easy in the coming days judging by Salah’s behaviour behind the scenes. His current position of not pushing for a move away indicates that Al Ittihad will have to wait at least until next year to try again.
Salah still has two years left on his contract and Liverpool may be more inclined to listen to offers next summer when the Egyptian star will be 32 years of age. Klopp also appears relaxed about Salah’s immediate future at Anfield despite the Saudi Pro League clubs being able to do business up until September 20.
