Pete Alonso, a star player for the New York Mets, has promised to donate $1,000 to animal rescues for each home run he hits in 2024, so it looks like he will be making a lot of donations.
According to SNY, as transcribed by “Outkick,”
“Myself and the Alonso Foundation will donate $1,000 for each home run to animal rescues. In an effort to address the problem of trying to remove animals from death shelters, we will assist as many animals as we can, whether that means covering the cost of supplies, blankets, beds, toys, transportation, or anything else. Reporters were told this morning by Alonso.
The 29-year-old went on, “We’re going to be donating certain money to rescues to take in animals – especially dogs out of kill shelters.”

The 29-year-old native of Florida is expected to donate between $35,000 and $50,000 this year because he has hit at least 37 home runs in every season in which he has participated (with the exception of COVID 2020, when he hit 16 in 60 games). He just finished a year in which he hit 46 home runs, and he set a career-high 53 back in 2019.
That kind of money will definitely win him a lot of admirers along the way and could go a long way toward a worthy cause.
Giving animals a second chance and a wonderful home is something that everyone can support, whether or not they are a Mets fan.
When the Mets play the Milwaukee Brewers on March 28, Alonso will get his first opportunity to hit a home run of the year.
