The latest Nottingham Forest transfer news as the goalkeeper’s injury is said to be having an impact on a potential return to the City Ground this summer
Nottingham Forest may have to wait until late in the window to complete a move for Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson.
The former loanee has been identified as a key target for Steve Cooper this summer. The 26-year-old spent last season on loan at the City Ground, but saw his season cut short thanks to a thigh injury picked up in the 2-0 win over Leicester City back in January.
That led to Forest turning to Keylor Navas, who signed on loan from Paris Saint-Germain for the remainder of the season. But he has since returned to his parent club, leading to Forest searching for another new goalkeeper this summer.
Forest are closing in on the signing of Arsenal man Matt Turner, after reaching a deal with the Gunners. But that has not stopped the club continuing to push for Henderson in the current window, with Cooper keen to add two new goalkeepers to his ranks
The Manchester United man has returned to light training as he continues to step up his recovery after undergoing surgery on the thigh injury earlier this year. And, according to The Sun, that is one of the main reasons that has delayed a possible move.
The report says that the thorough medical that will be required by Forest to complete the signing could risk “aggravating” Henderson’s injury. Man United are therefore said to be reluctant to sanction a medical until later in the window.
It is said that both United and Forest are “willing to wait” until the player is fully recovered, in order to reduce the risks. There is yet to be a timeframe on when that will be, although Forest are said to be hopeful that it will come before the end of the transfer window.
Make no mistake – Nottingham Forest’s return to the Premier League was a roaring success.
Staying in the division was the aspiration and the primary goal, and it was mission successful.
There is no doubt that it was a turbulent first campaign back for Steve Cooper and his side, and now the emphasis will be on stability.
