Nottingham Forest could be about to complete the bizarre signing of Alexis Sanchez. The versatile forward is out of contract after a pretty impressive campaign with Marseille in France.
According to El Futbolero, Sanchez has decided to walk away from the Ligue 1 outfit this summer. It’s claimed, quite ridiculously, that he’s now agreed to join Forest and has accepted a return to the Premier League.
Sanchez has a history in the top flight. He initially came to the country to sign for Arsenal from Barcelona and spent four years at the Emirates Stadium.
He was largely impressive during his time in North London. He bagged 80 goals and claimed 45 assists before rupturing his relationship with the Gunners faithful and signing for Manchester United.
At Old Trafford, things went south very quickly. He failed to live up to his billing and left after scoring five goals and claiming nine assists from just 45 appearances for the club.
Since leaving United he’s had pretty decent spells with Inter and Marseille. Last season, he found the net 18 times in all competitions; as the club made an impressive return to the Champions League.
Marseille players loved playing alongside him last season. Valentin Rongier called him ‘quality’ after a 2-0 win over Clermont and was extremely impressive across the campaign.
Forest could complete bizarre Sanchez signing
If you’d have said three years ago that Forest fans would be discussing whether signing Sanchez would be a good idea or not, you’d have been laughed out of any room!
Now, that is the reality of the situation. Sanchez looks to have received a proposal from Forest and it sounds as though the deal could be soon completed.
This signing perhaps doesn’t fit the profile of a Steve Cooper signing. Still, he’s a quality man-manager and he would surely relish the chance to call on Sanchez in attack.
The wages won’t be a problem and clearly, his age also won’t be a problem. After all, the club were willing to sign Willian and he’s a year older than Sanchez.
After 18 goals last season, he could do a job at the City Ground. It remains to be seen how legitimate this is but if it gets pulled off by Forest, Sanchez could be a very popular signing.
