Rangers managerial candidate Philippe Clement will not be arriving in Glasgow tonight, according to journalist Chris Jack.

The Rangers review journalist, taking to his personal Twitter account (10 October) shared that the Gers bosses have not made any final decision on any managerial candidate and talks remain ongoing.

News emerged on Tuesday 10 October from Saudi Arabia which claimed that the Light Blues presented a four-year offer to Clement to take over the vacant role [Al-Riyadiah, 10 October] with PLZ Soccer also reporting that Clement was due in Scotland tonight to discuss terms.

However, Jack has poured cold water over those reports claiming that the Gers are yet to make a decision on their preferred candidate, he tweeted:

“Philippe Clement will not be arriving in Glasgow tonight. Rangers have not made a final decision on any candidate and talks are ongoing.

After news emerged from Saudi, it all looked like Clement was indeed the preferred candidate and what an intriguing option he would have been given the job he did at Monaco and in Belgium.

But such is the importance and significance of the job needed at Ibrox, the Rangers bosses John Bennett and James Bisgrove are certainly taking their time over this decision and it is certainly one which needs to be taken with careful consideration.

The next person in the dugout needs to be there for the long haul if the club are to have any chance of success on the pitch.

Stability is needed in Glasgow, and that is something that has been severely lacking recently, with an interim boss currently in place, which is not the ideal scenario for anyone connected to the club.

Clement was sacked after a year at Monaco following his failure to land Champions League football at the club and such failure certainly won’t be tolerated after the failures of Beale and Giovanni van Bronckhurst.

Results need to improve as soon as possible, and that can only be achieved with an experienced, talented manager. Whether Clement is that man remains to be seen, and it’s only right that the club give careful consideration to alternative candidates.
