Graeme Souness is heading back to Rangers in an “advisory capacity” but with “influence behind the scenes”, according to Jim White.

The talkSPORT host shared the update on Go Radio’s The Football Show (20 October) that the former Ibrox player and manager was “going to get his way” after previous discussions with James Bisgrove regarding an ambassadorial post.

But, while there is some way to go, White says the former Sky Sports pundit can be “much more effective than that” and he had learned the same afternoon that “things are moving” towards a more meaningful return.

White told Paul Cooney, as per the Daily Record I understand it is increasingly likely that he is going to go back to the club in some kind of advisory role. There was talk about an ambassador role – but that is not Souness; shaking hands with people on a match day.

“He could be much, much more effective than that and I think he is going to get his way. The way I heard it this afternoon, things are moving.

“It will be in some kind of advisory capacity. There is a bit of talking to go yet. He is in Portugal just now playing some golf as I understand it, but it won’t [just] be an advisory role. It will be an influence behind the scenes, that is my learning of it

But after giving strong backing to Michael Beale only to see that project blow up in their faces, it would appear that they have taken the hint and are set to turn back to Souness.

Supporters will have to hope that his time in the media hasn’t left him out of touch with the actual runnings of a club like Rangers and he can have the necessary impact.

The season has got off to a pretty dismal start and the Gers have found themselves resetting once more, but with Philippe Clement in as manager and a big name potentially on his way in to help behind the scenes perhaps they can turn the situation around.
