THE LOWDOWN

SALERNITANA

Salernitana gained promotion to Serie A in 2021 but there was some controversy as they were owned by Lazio owner Claudio Lotito; which is against the league rules. In the nick of time on New Years’ Eve, Salernitana survived an administrative relegation and underwent a takeover. They remained in the battle against relegation, though, requiring a miraculous escape guided by Davide Nicola.

The Salerno outfit have invested well and smartly in the transfer windows since their escape but have remained a little chaotic in the dugout, beginning this season under the management of former Portugal manager Paulo Sousa. They started the season with back-to-back score draws against Roma and Udinese before being comfortably defeated by two goals to nil against Lecce.

TORINO

Under the management of Ivan Juric, Torino have flattered to deceive during his tenure with the Turin club supposedly playing a nice style of football but often being generally low-scoring and they finished firmly in mid-table last season. They lost Andrea Belotti on a free transfer to Roma in 2022 and have failed to replace his goals.

They began this season with an unconvincing 2-1 win over FeralpiSalo in the first round of the Coppa Italia before sharing a goalless draw at home to newly-promoted Cagliari. After that they were hammered by Milan before finally winning against, once again, newly-promoted opposition in the form of Genoa with a 94th minute winning goal from Nemanja Radonjic.

THE TEAM NEWS

SALERNITANA

Paulo Sousa is without a couple of key players due to injury but undoubtedly the most important absence is that of Boulaye Dia, who is injured for this weekend.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Ochoa; Lovato, Gyomber, Pirola; Cabral, Legowski, Coulibaly, Bradaric; Kastanos, Candreva; Botheim

UNAVAILABLE: Dia (Injured), Daniliuc (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

TORINO

Ivan Juric’s side have goal scoring issues as it is so the loss of Paraguayan striker Tonny Sanabria due to injury only worsens that. Koffi Djidji is also missing due to injury.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Milinkovic-Savic; Schuurs, Buongiorno, Rodriguez; Bellanova, Tameze, Linetty, Vojvoda; Ricci, Vlasic; Zapata

UNAVAILABLE: Sanabria (Injured), Djidji (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

THE PREDICTION

Paulo Sousa is a generally attacking manager but his sides have lacked effectiveness in the last few years. The former Poland and Flamengo coach has shown that lack of effectiveness and inconsistency at the start of this season, too, with just two points collected in their opening three matches. The late summer signing of Duvan Zapata from Atalanta is expected to offer Torino much-needed firepower but there is something just a bit stuttery about their general play that means another low-scoring encounter is expected.

TIP: UNDER 3.5 GOALS
