Chris Sutton has hit back at the Daily Record after they described Nicolas Raskin’s goal for Rangers in the 4-0 win over Hibernian as a “Rocket”.
The quote comes from the post sharing Sutton’s team of the week, which included three Rangers players, including James Tavernier and Abdallah Sima alongside Nicolas Raskin.
Sutton claimed the wording of their tweet was incorrect, disagreeing with the description of the goal, but shared the team asking fans whether or not they agreed with his choices.
Sutton quoted the Daily Record’s tweet sharing his team of the week on his personal Twitter account, stating: “Tough choices to make in the Record Sport Team of the Week, albeit it wasn’t a Raskin rocket, do you agree with this team?”
Sutton couldn’t resist a little dig at Rangers. Having included three of the Ibrox side’s team in his team of the week, there was no chance he’d let it go by without some form of criticism, no matter how mild and petty it may be.
As Raskin was approaching the ball to strike it from around 25-30 yards away from the goal, ready to drill the ball into the bottom corner, there’s no denying he’d have to strike it sweetly to beat the goalkeeper, and that he did.
The ball was fizzed along the floor and into the bottom corner before the goalkeeper could reach that spot in a perfectly placed strike with plenty behind it. So what are the qualifications to make the strike a “rocket” if Sutton believes this isn’t one?
Does the ball have to go into the top corner? Maybe hit the bar on its way in? It’s a strange criticism to level at the player, particularly when he clearly feels it was a good enough strike to include in his team of the week
