In a three-team trade involving the Hawks and the Nets, Dejounte Murray may wind up with the Lakers.
For several weeks now, the Los Angeles Lakers have been heavily linked to Atlanta Hawks guard Dejounte Murray. Now, a plan has been proposed for them to acquire Murray. NBA analyst Jake Weinbach believes that if the Lakers include the Brooklyn Nets in this trade, they could end up with Murray.
“Dejounte Murray would go to Los Angeles, D’Angelo Russell to Brooklyn, and Spencer Dinwiddie, a 2029 first via LAL, and additional draft compensation to Atlanta, if the Lakers, Hawks, and Nets were to enter into a three-team deal. Right now, that scenario is plausible.”

Additionally, the Hawks recoup a portion of the draft capital they forfeited in 2022 when they acquired Murray in a trade with the San Antonio Spurs. They had thought that having Trae Young and Murray in the backcourt would propel them to new heights, but that hasn’t happened. With their current record of 18–26 for the season, you have to wonder if a complete rebuild is imminent.

The Nets would forfeit some of their financial flexibility as a result of this trade. They would have a lot of options for the upcoming offseason to choose from now that Dinwiddie’s contract is off the books.
Russell has a player option worth $18.7 million for 2024–2025; if the Nets acquire him, they would forfeit that flexibility. They would need to think highly enough of the 27-year-old and see him as an essential component of their puzzle in order for them to
