It seems that the Los Angeles Lakers are refocusing their efforts in advance of the trade deadline.
In the midst of rumors that their players—aside from Austin Reaves, whom they wish to keep—do not have much trade value in the league, veteran guard Spencer Dinwiddie of the Brooklyn Nets has become a new target.
According to Action Network’s Matt Moore, “the Lakers are known to have interest in Spencer Dinwiddie.” This was written on January 21. “[He] is probably going to create a market ahead of schedule.”
This season, Dinwiddie, 30, has averaged 13.5 points, 6.1 assists, and 3.5 rebounds.
Having played with Luka Doncic with the Dallas Mavericks and Kyrie Irving with the Nets, he has a wealth of experience on and off the court. Dinwiddie, who played as Brooklyn’s starting guard in the last 15 games of the previous season, averaged 10.9 assists.
Dinwiddie, who shot 33.3% in his career at one point in his career, is doing so this season. That won’t end the Lakers’ problems shooting three points.
They are ranked 30th in attempts per game and 18th in three-point efficiency.
Dinwiddie is in the last year of a $34 million, three-year contract. That would prevent the Lakers from making any long-term plans after this season. In terms of draft compensation, he should also be more accessible to acquire than his fellow trade targets.
