Liverpool have signed a ‘comeplete player’ in new midfielder Wataru Endo.

Endo joined the Reds last week in a move that very few people saw coming. Having initially been seen as an underwhelming addition, it soon became clear that the Japan captain could be a really smart piece of business for Liverpool.

Someone who clearly subscribes to that view is Stuttgart legend Hansi Muller. Speaking to German outlet Sport1 about Endo, Muller admitted that the 30-year-old is ‘irreplaceable’ to his former team.

“I was shocked when I heard that Endo was leaving VfB,” says the 66-year-old. “He was the heart and soul of the team, unfortunately he can’t be replaced one-to-one because he’s just a complete player.

“If a player expresses the desire to fulfil his dream with England, then you must not hold it with all your might. His head would then be somewhere else and that would go wrong

Endo earns more praise

The more days that tick by towards the transfer deadline, the more likely it looks as though Liverpool’s business is done.

That won’t go down well in many quarters. Having lost so many players since the end of last season, the Reds have only brought three through the door.

But in isolation, each one looks like a very good signing for the Reds.

Of course, Dominik Szoboszlai’s qualities are clear. The Hungarian has had praise showered on him from all corners ever since his arrival at Anfield.

Alexis Mac Allister speaks for himself, too. A seasoned Premier League pro and a World Cup winner, the 24-year-old is ready to make the step up to playing for Liverpool.

But Endo’s suitability for a club the size of this one is a little less obvious. He certainly isn’t the superstar in the making the Reds would have got with someone like Moises Caicedo.

Nevertheless, so much has been said about him in the past 10 days, and virtually all of it has been positive. Those who know him rate him very highly. Let’s just hope he can make that jump
