Burnleyhave reportedly started negotiations with Ajax regarding the winger Carlos Forbs’ loan signing; Nottingham Forest is also rumored to be interested in the player.
The 19-year-old, who developed his talents at Sporting Lisbon’s academy as a young player, signed a £10 million summer transfer from Manchester City to join the Dutch powerhouses.
With 21 goals in 24 Premier League 2 appearances last season, Forbs’ goal-laden season for the Citizens’ Under-23s side drew Ajax’s attention.
The attacker has experience playing internationally as well. Since making his debut at that level in August, he has made three appearances for Portugal Under-21s.
Forbs may be getting ready to return to England after only six months in the Netherlands, as Football Insider reports that Burnley is in talks to sign the player.
It is believed that Ajax is willing to allow the Portuguese player to leave on loan for the duration of the season because the attacker has lost ground under John van’t Schip.
This season, Forbs has played in 16 Eredivisie games, starting just six of them. In 613 minutes of league play, he has one goal and three assists.
The former Man City player is reportedly adored by Vincent Kompany, but the Clarets aren’t the only team interested in signing the winger.
It’s thought that Ajax and relegation rivals Nottingham Forest have also discussed a deal for Forbs, who apparently wants to establish himself in the Eredivisie after a shaky debut.
During the January transfer window, Burnley bolstered their attacking ranks by bringing in David Datro Fofana from Chelsea on a temporary loan to finish the season.
The former Molde striker played for Union Berlin in the Bundesliga for the first half of the 2023–24 season, making 17 appearances and scoring two goals, one of which came against Serie A leaders Napoli in the Champions League.
With Lyle Foster and Zeki Amdouni leading the team’s Golden Boot race with four goals apiece in the league, only Sheffield United, the bottom team, have scored fewer goals than the Clarets’ 21 goals in the first 21 games of the Premier League season.
Burnley is currently enjoying a two-week winter break before traveling to Pep Guardiola’s Man City on January 31. This comes after a highly contentious 1-1 draw against fellow struggling team Luton Town last Friday.
