The Miami Heat are still adding players, especially to bolster their backcourt. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, they have added Patty Mills to the team after acquiring Delon Wright and trading for Terry Rozier.
Mills, 35, has participated in 95 postseason games with the Blazers, Spurs, and Nets. Wojnarowski stated via his X account, “He played 19 games with the Hawks this season and now joins the Heat, where he’ll be eligible for the postseason roster.
Before being waived by the Atlanta Hawks on February 29, Mills participated in 19 games for the team. Mills averaged 2.7 points per game while shooting 37.3% from the field and 38.2% from three during his 19 games with the Hawks.
The Australian guard, who is 35 years old, has changed as a player since he assisted the Spurs in defeating the Heat in the 2014 NBA Finals. Yet he joins a team trying to make it back to the NBA Finals with championship experience.
On the Heat’s depth chart, Patty Mills will be behind Josh Richardson, Tyler Herro, Rozier, and Wright. If the Heat are ever shorthanded, they will at least have an alternative when it comes to floor spacing.
In an interview with Ryen Russilo for “The Bill Simmons Podcast” on March 3, Simmons gave his explanation for why he thinks the Heat have been successful over the previous few seasons.
“The Heat are extremely fortunate. It’s really terrible, this [Jaime] Jaquez situation, Simmons added. As a result, they win a f****** coin flip with Boston, and they receive Tyler Herro. The idiot Portland Trail Blazers trade two selections to go up to 10 and select Zach Collins rather than Bam, which allows them to get Bam [Adebayo] at pick 14. Then [Luke] Kennard plays 12 minutes against the [Detroit] Pistons. Bam drops to four
