ATLANTA (AP) – Pitcher Julio Teheran’s deal with the New York Mets includes a $400,000 performance bonus.
The one-year deal, which was revealed on Friday, pays the 33-year-old right-hander $2.5 million in the major leagues and $150,000 in the minors.
For each of the five games he pitched, he would receive a bonus of $50,000, $250,000 for 20 starts, and $100,000 for 25 starts.
On Monday night, Teheran was scheduled to make his Mets debut against the Atlanta Braves.
The Baltimore Orioles were his spring training home, but when he didn’t make their opening-day roster in late March, he decided to opt out of his minor league contract. He stayed in his Miami house for a whole twelve days, using bullpens and playing one fake game to keep himself ready.
Teheran, a two-time All-Star, pitched for the NL Central-winning Milwaukee Brewers last year, going 3-5 with a 4.40 ERA in 11 starts and three relief appearances.
