SKY NEWS: Proposed Cowboys Trade Brings ‘Out of Favor’ Raiders WR to Dallas

The Dallas Cowboys are rumored to be involved in a trade for a wide receiver from the Las Vegas Raiders as the new league season draws closer. With CeeDee Lamb, one of the best receivers in the league, the Cowboys will probably try to strengthen the receiving corps.

Writer of Blogging the Boys LP Cruz has proposed a move for Hunter Renfrow if they do so. Dallas may be able to acquire the former Clemson Tiger for a low price because he appears to have been reduced to a bit part role in Vegas.

“After playing only 35% of the offensive snaps, Renfrow hit career-lows in all significant statistics as a result of falling out of favor with the Raiders’ coaching staff,” Cruz wrote on February 17. Nothing changed for Renfrow even after interim coach Antonio Pierce took over. Renfrow will cost $13.7 million in salary the following season, but it’s safe to assume the Raiders would be willing to defray a portion of that cost in order to facilitate a trade. Given how often the Cowboys and Raiders have worked out agreements in the past, it wouldn’t be shocking if they both agreed.
Although Renfrow is still relatively young and has a Pro Bowl honor to his name, it is risky to “buy low.” If he could get assistance from the Raiders with his salary, this proposal would be an even better one.

Renfrow’s Time with Raiders

Renfrow was selected in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL draft, following a stellar career at Clemson University. In his rookie season, he had 49 receptions for 605 yards and four touchdowns, so he was having an immediate impact for Vegas.

However, according to Pro Football Reference, 2021 was his best year. With 103 receptions, Renfrow amassed 1038 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. After being selected for that year’s Pro Bowl, he received a $32.3 million, two-year contract extension.

But in the two years since, the 28-year-old’s output has significantly decreased. Due to injury, Renfrow only participated in 10 games in 2022. 36 receptions for 330 yards and two touchdowns were made by him.

But things will be different in 2023. While healthy, Renfrow was limited to playing in 35% of Las Vegas’ offensive plays. With 255 yards and 25 receptions, he did not record a touchdown.
