NEWS NOW: Rangers set to complete the signing of Keanu Baccus following the billionaire’s €200 million backing.

This time last year, footballers around the globe were preparing for a first, a winter World Cup and one of those players involved was linked with a move to Rangers – Keanu Baccus.

The Australian defensive midfielder had 18-months left on his St Mirren deal when interest was first reported and, if anything, his form in this campaign has been even better.

Sitting third in the Scottish Premiership behind Rangers, St Mirren have enjoyed a fine start to the season and Keanu Baccus has been central to this, with his contract set to expire and Philippe Clement in need of midfield reinforcements, it is a move that makes sense.

Rangers have clear path to sign previous target Keanu Baccus

At 25-years old, Baccus is experienced but also at an age where he could still be developed and sold.

Speaking last year, when the links to Rangers emerged, he revealed where he wants to be playing his football:

“It’s always been a dream of mine to play in the Premier League … the goal is to get there one day, who knows when but hopefully in the near future,”

It’s unlikely that a Premier League club would take a punt on him playing for St Mirren, however, a good season for Rangers in the Premiership and in Europe would get clubs sitting up and taking notice.
