REAL DEAL: Leeds united 49ers owners finally agree to let one of their big-name to leave in the New Year.

Leeds pulled off what was seen as a huge coup in signing Junior Firpo from Barcelona in 2021, but the 27-year-old has failed to live up to expectations at Elland Road and reports are suggesting he could be on the verge of a return to Spain. Firpo was surplus to requirements at Barcelona two years ago with a host of clubs expressing an interest in the full-back.

Firpo was the starting left-back for Barcelona at one stage and Leeds were hoping Firpo could have continued his upward trajectory in the north west of England. He helped them avoid relegation from the Premier League in his first season in England, but struggled to impress last year as they went down to the Championship.

Daniel Farke is looking to bounce straight back to the top flight with Leeds currently fourth in the table. But Firpo has only contributed in a handful of league matches with Sam Byram preferred over the Dominican Republic star.

And Firpo’s time at Leeds may soon be coming to an end with Spanish outlet Sport claiming the defender has a ‘burning desire’ to leave.

A move back to La Liga is reportedly Firpo’s preference and Real Betis are said to be monitoring his situation. 49ers Enterprises, who bought out Andre Radrizzani this past summer, will likely need to bring in cash from player sales to help with any incomings Farke wants in the January window.
