Real Deal: Leeds United begins a new takeover after the 49ers and the US agree to a £170 million deal.

49ers Enterprises are set to open new takeover talks with another investment group after selling a minority stake in Leeds United to Ackerley Partners over the summer, Football Insider has been told.

The US-based investment group acquired majority control of Leeds from former owner Andrea Radrizzani this summer.

Following the club’s relegation from the Premier League, the 49ers paid around £170million to buy his remaining 56 percent stake.

Leeds’ new owners welcomed a number of celebrity investors over the summer with Michael Phelps, Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas included in the list of athletes that purchased a minority stake.

A report from Bloomberg also reveals that the 49ers sold a minority stake in the club to Ackerley Partners – the part-owners of NHL team Seattle Kraken.

The amount invested by Ackerley Partners remains undisclosed, but it is understood that the new capital will be used to help operating costs and the football operations at Elland Road.

Football Insider has been told that the 49ers are also preparing to open talks with other interested investors as they ramp up their promotion push.

A number of US parties have registered interest in buying a stake in the Yorkshire club following their rise in popularity in America.

The 49ers are eager to return to the Premier League this season and are willing to raise additional funds for the club’s January transfer budget.

Leeds currently sit third in the Championship table, but are eight points adrift from the automatic promotion places
