In an article discussing the squad overhaul at Real Madrid, a report from Spain claims that Liverpool have made a bid to sign Uruguayan midfielder Federico Valverde.
The topic of Liverpool’s midfield rebuild in this summer’s transfer window is by far the most discussed among fans online.
As the situation stands, Jurgen Klopp’s midfield is still at least two midfielders away from being fit to purpose.
Liverpool signed Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai but they have also parted ways with six midfielders since the end of last season and are now looking dangerously short of cover.
The pursuit of Romeo Lavia this has dragged on and has been convoluted by Chelsea hijacking the situation with a £48 million bid.
Their offer was also rejected as Southampton continue to show impressive resilience. They have now rejected four offers this summer – three from Liverpool, one from Chelsea.
Meanwhile, reports emerged linking Liverpool with a grand slam move to, in turn, hijack Chelsea’s move to sign Moises Caicedo, with a claim from the Telegraph’s Matt Law stating that the Reds had outbid the Blues for the 21-year-old Ecuadorian.
However, the Times’ trusted reporter Paul Joyce claims that Jurgen Klopp’s side is merely conducting due diligence on all targets and were in contact with Brighton but expect him to join Chelsea.
At the time of writing, Liverpool have just 24 days to complete their remaining signings.
Klopp wants two new midfielders and a defender but with the exception of Liverpool finally biting the proverbial £50 million bullet for Lavia, the Reds don’t appear close to completing any other signings.
A report from Spain claims Liverpool now want to poach Federico Valverde from Real Madrid, having already made a €60 million (£51.8m) bid to “try to reach an agreement” over a move to Anfield.
They go on to say that it’s “not the first time the English team has tried to sign Fede.”
Liverpool were previously prepared to pay €100 million (£86.4m) but due to the “decline in performances” of Valverde, the Anfield outfit has lowered its offer.
Los Blancos president Florentino Perez will only let Valverde leave if they pay a minimum of €80 million.
