Leeds United could face a battle to keep hold of young defender Charlie Cresswell, with Middlesbrough keen on signing him in January.
Michael Carrick’s side played Leeds this weekend and came out on the losing side in a pulsating game.
Cresswell, meanwhile, was not in the Leeds squad again and a move away in January could be on the cards.
And according to The Sun, it is Carrick’s Middlesbrough who are among the clubs wanting to sign him.
The Sun reports how Middlesbrough are looking for a new defender to replace Darragh Lenihan and Cresswell ticks boxes for Carrick.
Nottingham Forest’s Joe Worrall is also a name mentioned.
Leeds need to make careful decision on Cresswell
The 21-year-old excelled at Millwall last year and it’s a bit of a surprise to see him not involved too much this season.
Of course, Daniel Farke is seeing his team play well and there’s obviously no reason for him to throw Cresswell into the mix right now.
Farke, though, has been impressed with Cresswell, admitting his performances in training a few months back had been top class.
Quite what Cresswell will want to do next, remains to be seen. Playing under Carrick will have an appeal for the young defender and Middlesbrough are looking good again.
However, whether Leeds strengthen a promotion rival in January is another matter and that’s something only the club can decide on.
Cresswell, though, needs to start playing soon and after such a good campaign last season, will not want to go stale by simply sitting on the bench all year.
