We can always start sorting through team needs for the NFL offseason now. (The wide receiver-obsessed New York Giants, we’re especially looking at you.) For every NFC team, the following 2024 free agent is worth pursuing, according to Yardbarker NFL writers.
Dallas Cowboys | NFC East | LB Blake Cashman: With 87 tackles (51 solo), Cashman leads the Texans and has recorded double-digit stops in three of his games. According to Pro Football Focus, “Among 55 linebackers with at least 50 tackles in 2023, Cashman’s 7% missed tackle rate is a top-15 mark.” In Week 15, the Cowboys lost to Buffalo and allowed 266 yards of rushes; they could definitely use his assistance.
WR Tee Higgins of the New York Giants: Although the Giants would love to trade Mike Evans for him, they most likely cannot afford him given their estimated $36 million in cap space for 2024. The 24-year-old Higgins, who has 3,525 career yards, 23 touchdown catches, and a more affordable price tag, could be a huge asset to the NFL’s worst passing offense.
Eagles of Philadelphia | Security Gardner-Johnson, Chauncey: Detroit’s 26-year-old safety led Philadelphia with six interceptions to help the team win the NFC in 2022, but he hasn’t played since Week 2 due to a torn pectoral muscle. That should lower the cost for an Eagles team that surrenders 255.4 passing yards per game, which is the fifth-highest in the NFL.
Tyron Smith of the Washington Commanders is projected to make a league-high $89 million.
