According to Calcio Mercato, Juventus are in talks with Weston McKennie’s representation, despite being ‘dumped’ by the Old Lady and put on loan to Leeds United last season, where he failed.
McKennie, 25, joined Leeds in January despite starting 16 times for Juventus in all competitions in the first half of 22-23. He appeared 20 times for Leeds, but his form was poor and he struggled at Elland Road.
McKennie’s fitness was often questioned, and his friends even battled with Leeds fans on Twitter during his loan. He returned to Juventus, and it was believed that the American star would follow.
McKennie, on the other hand, has appeared in all eight of Juve’s Serie A matches, starting the last six. Perhaps the scandals involving fellow Juventus midfielders Paul Pogba and Nicolo Fagioli helped. Juve is short on choices.
His form has been consistent, and the slower tempo of Italian football may have aided McKennie. Now, according to CM, McKennie is the subject of new talks about extending his Juve contract, which expires in 2025.
McKennie is forming an effective midfield partnership with Manuel Locatelli and Adrien Rabiot. A star-studded trio of players, particularly in the shape of Rabiot. Last season, he was undoubtedly one of the top midfielders in the world.
So, McKennie has a lot going for him: his slower style of play, the help he has in midfield, and the problems with Pogba and Fagioli, which forced Max Allegri to start McKennie in the middle of the park.
McKennie, on the other hand, deserves some praise. His form has been outstanding. He soon got over the Leeds period and got his career back on track. It’s a bad we never got to see McKennie.
