Liverpool hoping to complete three new signings in first weeks of transfer window
Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita is expected to miss out on a farewell appearance against Southampton on Sunday due to injury.
The Guinea international will leave the club this summer when his contract expires, but he won’t be able to make one final appearance for the Reds as a muscle injury has ruled him out of the game, according to Football Insider,
Keita is one of four players – along with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner and Roberto Firmino – who will depart Anfield this summer, but it now appears that the Reds are hoping to sign replacements quickly.
According to Football Insider, those in charge of the club are hoping to complete three signings by the end of June.
The report claims that Liverpool are focussing on signing central midfielders, as well as a right-back and a centre-back.
With midfielders Milner, Keita and Oxlade-Chamberlain all leaving, manager Jurgen Klopp will be keen to bolster his options.
The report suggests that Liverpool will try to sign a number of central midfielders that will be able to slot straight into Klopp’s side.
Brighton and Hove Albion star Alexis Mac Allister is said to be one of Liverpool’s prime targets, although the likes of Jude Bellingham and Manuel Ugarte have also been linked with the club.
Milner, 37, had often deputised at right-back when Trent Alexander-Arnold was unavailable, and Klopp is therefore keen to add another right-sided full-back to his squad this summer.
A new central defender is also a high priority, as Klopp looks to sign a centre-back to provide competition for the likes of Ibrahima Konate and Joel Matip.
It is also claimed that Liverpool could look to sign a new goalkeeper if Irishman Caoimhin Kelleher leaves the club.
The ‘keeper has played a bit-part role for the Reds with Alisson very much the club’s first choice, and Kelleher could therefore push for a move away from Merseyside.
