Robert Horry officially declared the 17th overall pick as a trade to double Bronny James’s contract with Lakers

Lakers LeBron James and Robert Horry before Bronny James NBA Draft acquisition

The one thing that LeBron James has been very vocal about is his desire to play with one of his sons. Two years prior to this NBA Draft, it was a foregone conclusion that the Los Angeles Lakers might be the ones to land Bronny James. Now, the situation has shifted due to draft orders and The King’s desire to enter free agency. For Robert Horry, this does not change anything. He outlines that Rob Pelinka’s organization should still gun for the young player out of Andy Enfield’s USC basketball program.

Bronny James is not the most attractive prospect to most. After his showing at USC, he only averaged 4.8 points on a horrid 36.6% clip from all three levels of the field. What made it worse was that, for someone who was slated to be a shooter, his stroke from outside only saw the bottom of the net 26.7% of the time. Entering the NBA Draft, any team knows that LeBron James’ son is a raw prospect.

Even Robert Horry acknowledges these facts. But, he notes that the Lakers have nothing to lose, via The Dan Patrick Show.

If you look at this draft, if I tell you to give me the top five picks you couldn’t do it. You know you don’t know who’s going to be in the top picks. In this draft, I hate to say it, but it’s kind of weak. So why not take a chance on Bronny James? Because, everybody across the league right now, each draft pick is going to be a project player,” the Lakers legend declared.
