Robinson Cano, an eight-time MLB All-Star, has reportedly signed with a team in the Mexican Baseball League, David Venn of MLB.com writes. The former New York Yankees player is slated to join the Diablos Rojos del México for the upcoming 2024 season.
With the Yankees, Cano, 41, become one of the game’s top second basemen. When he debuted with New York in 2005, he came in second in the American League Rookie of the Year competition. Cano made his first All-Star team in 2006, capping off an incredible season.
Cano’s stellar play would carry over to the 2013 year while he was in New York. 2009 saw him assist New York in winning the World Series as well.
In 2014, Robinson Cano signed with the Seattle Mariners after leaving the Yankees. The New York Mets received him in a subsequent trade. Since 2022, when he played for the Mets, San Diego Padres, and Atlanta Braves, Cano has not made an appearance in an MLB game.
Robinson Cano’s baseball future after leaving the Yankees
Cano might try to join MLB again in the future. But when his MLB career ends, he will have won two Gold Gloves, been an eight-time All-Star, a five-time Silver Slugger, and a World Series.
Cano isn’t giving up on his baseball aspirations, no matter what the future holds for him in Major League Baseball. Cano succeeding with the Diablos Rojos del México would not be shocking. He will have big league experience and insight to impart to the team’s young players as a mentor. Cano will, of course, probably also produce at a reasonable level.
