Dean Jones has insisted that Jack Butland may be tempted to make the switch from Rangers to Birmingham City if Philippe Clement doesn’t impose his style immediately at Ibrox.

The former Eurosport journalist has claimed that the Blues and Wayne Rooney could pull on Butland’s heartstrings as he started his career with the club.

Jones suggested that Clement will need to show the goalkeeper how important he is to his team, and what he will mean to him going forward with his new style and setup set to be imposed at Ibrox.

Jones spoke to GIVEMESPORT on 19 October when he shared: “It’s not ideal to be hearing talk about Butland and Birmingham. I think the player needs to be sure of this new vision quickly so he understands because if he’s not, there might be the temptation to leave.

“The pull of Rooney and Birmingham is huge because both pull on the heartstrings a bit. But Butland is a very experienced player.

“We’ll soon find out what Clement thinks of him, players like him within the setup and what they’ll mean to him going forward.

Butland has been the stand-out star for Rangers this season despite their poor start to the season with the majority of players underperforming, but the goalkeeper has stepped up and showed his class, quickly earning acclaim as the number one at Ibrox.
