Sad news: Former Mets Top Prospect Amed Rosario Finds New Home in Washington”

Former New York Mets top prospect Amed Rosario has returned to the National League East, signing a one-year, $2 million contract with the Washington Nationals.

Rosario, 29, began his Major League Baseball career with the Mets, debuting in 2017 after being one of the organization’s most highly regarded prospects. During his four seasons in New York, he posted a .268 batting average with 32 home runs, 148 RBIs, and 50 stolen bases. In 2021, Rosario was traded to the Cleveland Guardians as part of the deal that brought Francisco Lindor to the Mets.

In the 2024 season, Rosario showcased his versatility by playing for the Tampa Bay Rays, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Cincinnati Reds. He maintained a .280 batting average across 103 games, contributing three home runs, 32 RBIs, and 13 stolen bases. Defensively, Rosario demonstrated flexibility by appearing at multiple positions, including second base, right field, third base, and shortstop.

The Nationals’ infield for the upcoming season is projected to feature left-handed hitters at all four starting positions. Rosario’s addition provides a right-handed bat with a career .298/.337/.460 line against left-handed pitchers, making him a valuable asset for potential platoon situations.

To accommodate Rosario on the roster, the Nationals designated right-handed pitcher Joan Adon for assignment. Adon, 26, recorded a 6.75 ERA over eight games in the previous season and holds a career record of 3-16 with a 6.66 ERA.

Rosario’s return to the NL East brings his career full circle, offering him an opportunity to reestablish himself as a consistent contributor. His experience and adaptability are expected to enhance the Nationals’ lineup as they aim to improve upon their performance in the competitive division.
