The Whites didn’t have an exciting start to the season, with Daniel Farke needing some time to adjust to his new circumstances, but his team has impressed as the season has progressed. Leeds are presently third in the Championship table, having won four of their previous five league matches, and they face a significant test away to current leaders Leicester City on Friday night, who have only lost one league match in 2023/24.
Unfortunately for the Whites, they have had injury issues leading up to the game, with Joe Rodon, Sam Byram, and Crysencio Summerville all being doubts, even though they may end up being available. However, a significant update on the fitness of another major Leeds figure has now emerged, and things do not appear to be looking up for him.
According to a new update from Farke, Leeds attacker Joe Gelhardt has suffered a new injury setback, having fractured his hand during a training session:
“Unfortunately, some bad news was that Joe Gelhardt, who suffered a hand fracture in training yesterday, and we will wait for further evaluation.” He’ll surely miss the next couple of weeks, so we need to analyze him further, potentially to see whether he requires surgery if it keeps him out any longer, but this will happen in the next days and he’s definitely not a topic for the next game.”
This is a huge setback for Leeds, since Gelhgardt has made the transition from the youth to the first squad in recent years.Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp is a big supporter of the Englishman, once stating of him:
“You can see him on the field; he made a significant difference.” I like him; he’s a lot of fun. He’s quick, aggressive, gets on the ball, and challenges people. He enjoys getting into the box since it is where he can do the greatest damage.”
