SAD NEWS: Rory McIlroy declined Leeds United’s purchase offer is disclosed……

Professional golfer Rory McIlroy claims that his loyalty to Manchester United prevented him from making an investment in Leeds United during the 49ers Enterprises’ Elland Road takeover this summer.

With Andrea Radrizzani’s term with the Whites coming to an end, the group completed their takeover. Similar to Rickie Fowler, fellow golfers Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas supported the concept and gave McIlroy a chance to seize control, but McIlroy declined.

In the most recent instance of crossovers in sports, McIlroy has backed F1 team Alpine. “Sports stars are becoming more savvy and really trying to use their money in the right way,” he stated to the BBC.

“I told them I couldn’t go anywhere near that because I’m a Man United fan when they asked if I wanted to join. I will surely take a look at the next opportunity that presents itself. It would be awesome to be able to own even a very small portion of the team you grew up supporting.”

It’s a great opportunity, I’ve always been a big fan of F1,” he stated in reference to the investment made in the F1 squad. There has always been a significant Irish/Northern Irish connection there with Eddie Jordan and Eddie Irvine.

It’s something I’ve always done. And then when this opportunity presented itself, I just thought about how much the Formula One industry is growing in the US in especially, and I have made a few investments in that regard, but this has become more of a journey and a story.

It should come as no surprise that they went to market and attracted some investors, but in my opinion, it also stabilizes the team and gives them some forward momentum. F1 does everything so damned brilliantly. Golf may take a lot of cues from Formula One Racing, including setup procedures and methodology.”
