Salernitana confirmed Filippo Inzaghi’s impending departure this morning, capping an unimpressive managerial career. Following yet another setback, Salerno thanked the former Milan striker for his services in an official statement.
According to the club’s statement, “Salernitana announce to have relieved first team coach Filippo Inzaghi of his duties.” “The club extends its gratitude to the coach for his dedication and best wishes for his future professional endeavors.”
Less than 48 hours have passed since Salernitana’s crushing 3-1 home loss to fellow relegation rivals Empoli, which led to Inzaghi’s dismissal. Granata lost that match, their fourth in the previous five Serie A games, which made it harder for them to avoid relegation. In October 2023, he became the Salernitana manager after Paulo Sousa’s team had a difficult period. But in his 16 games as manager, he managed just two victories and lost ten, which was nearly enough to force the club to fire him.
Salernitana will battle to stay in the standings the entire season, six points behind Udinese in 17th place. Given that Fabio Liverani appears to be the most likely successor to Inzaghi, it may be up to him to guide them to elite survival.
After splitting with Cagliari in 2022, Liverani has not been affiliated with a club. However, Salernitana still think he’d be a good choice to take over. The 47-year-old is already in the city and is expected to sign a brief contract soon.
