The center for the Los Angeles Lakers, Christian Wood, surprised his mother Jeanette Stewart on New Year’s Day with a dream home, fulfilling a heartfelt promise.

“Life’s objective. I made a financial promise to my mother when I was 18 that I would buy her the home of her dreams before I turned 30. Now, fast forward, I accomplished that! I cherish you.

Raised by his single mother Stewart, who supported him and his two siblings, Wood faced the disappointment of going undrafted early in his career; however, his mother’s encouragement and belief in his dreams inspired him to persevere. She comforted him at a casino after the draft, assuring him that setbacks wouldn’t define his future. Wood kept his promise to his mother as a teenager that he would buy her dream home before turning thirty. The 28-year-old shared photos of the heartwarming moment on social media, expressing his love for his mother and the fulfillment of a life goal.

Christian Wood knows that being a player for a prominent team like the Lakers entails some level of trade rumors, so he doesn’t let them bother him. In his first games with the Lakers after signing a two-year contract in the summer, Wood has faced a combination of difficulties and triumphs.

The seasoned center has proven himself in clutch situations, earning a place in the starting lineup.
