Ahead of the 2024 MLB regular season, ESPN has appointed journalist Jorge Castillo as their newest reporter covering Major League Baseball. He begins covering the New York Yankees and New York Mets for ESPN.com today in his new position.
Castillo, an in-depth storyteller with a love for baseball, comes to ESPN after working for the Los Angeles Times for almost six years, first as an enterprise reporter and then as a beat writer for the Dodgers.
“This opportunity is truly a dream come true for me, as someone who grew up consuming everything ESPN,” Castillo stated. “I’m thrilled to work with so many talented people and honoured to join such a great baseball crew.”
Castillo, who is based in New York, will cover the Yankees and Mets live events and provide news, analysis, and narrative. Throughout the season and postseason, he will also cover national MLB themes. He’ll be on TV and radio as well.
ESPN Deputy Editor Rachel Ullrich of ESPN.com continued, saying, “We’re excited to have Jorge join the ESPN baseball team. We anticipate no less from him in New York given that he has covered some of the major baseball teams in some of the league’s most competitive cities. We are thrilled to have him join our skilled team with his amazing reporting, insightful analysis, and imaginative storytelling.
He used to cover the Washington Nationals and Washington Wizards for the Washington Post in addition to his tenure at the Los Angeles Times. In addition, he covered baseball for The Star-Ledger and The New York Times. Originally from Massachusetts, he graduated from Yale University.
