sky news: Leicester City player might represent highly desired by a European team throughout the January transfer window.

Although they lost two straight games prior to the international break, Leicester City has been in excellent form in the Championship, which was somewhat expected given how strong their team appears on paper.

Many of the Foxes’ seasoned players from their dismal 2022–23 Premier League season were still at King Power Stadium, including a few who had little to no involvement in the previous campaign.

Jannik Vestergaard was one of those, as he only played three times in cup competitions but did not play a minute in the Premier League under Brendan Rodgers, Mike Stowell, Adam Sadler, or Dean Smith.

The towering Dane was given a reprieve though by Enzo Maresca when he was appointed as head coach over the summer, and aside from a one-match suspension for accumulating five yellow cards in just nine matches, he has been an ever-present in the starting 11 for table-topping City.

Jannik Vestergaard’s Championship Stats 2023-24
Appearances 15
Goals 1
Assists 0
Yellow Cards 8
Red Cards 0
Clean Sheets 5
Tackles Per Game 1.4
Interceptions Per Game 1.1
Aerial Duels Won Per Game 2.4
Clearances Per Game 4
Blocks Per Game 0.8
Fouls Per Game 0.9
Pass Success % 93.2

Starting alongside Wout Faes at the heart of the defence, Vestergaard ranks among the top 20 players in the Championship on WhoScored ratings, which just shows how settled he is in Maresca’s new style.

There is a chance though that the 31-year-old could depart the King Power Stadium in less than a year’s time – or perhaps sooner.

What is Jannik Vestergaard’s contract situation with Leicester City?

When arriving from Southampton in August 2021, Vestergaard signed a three-year contract with Leicester, but he barely featured under Brendan Rodgers in Premier League action and was merely a backup option.

Now, Vestergaard has just over seven months remaining on his current deal with City, and there’s no inclination of an extension coming in the immediate future.
