According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Delon Wright agreed to a contract buyout with the Washington Wizards, clearing the way for him to sign with the Miami Heat once he clears waivers and becomes an NBA free agent.
This season, Wright—who is 31 years old—saw less playing time with the Wizards as they chose to concentrate on developing other players during their rebuilding process.
Wright’s 13.8 minutes per game average this season is therefore the lowest it has been since his league debut.
Wright is coming off of an outstanding 2022–23 season, where he averaged 7.4 points and 3.9 assists per game, along with a field goal percentage of 47.4% and a 34.5 percent from the field. Despite the drop in minutes.
Wright, a 6-foot-5 combo guard with dependable shooting, playmaking, and defensive skills, is well-known for his versatility.
His arrival is anticipated to strengthen the Miami Heat’s backcourt, particularly in view of the recent acquisition of guard Terry Rozier’s sprained knee injury. Josh Richardson’s right shoulder dislocation is still healing.
Wright was nearing the end of his contract and will be available for free this summer. After receiving interest from several playoff teams interested in his services, he will try to assist the Heat.
