Rangers are now being named as one of the clubs in the race to sign Everton defender Ben Godfrey in January.
We can expect to see Philippe Clement add a number of new faces in January as he looks to mould the Rangers squad.
Rangers should concentrate on increasing the speed of the game wherever on the field, including defense.
Although Leon Balogun and Connor Goldson are back on the squad, it is clear that Balogun isn’t the long-term solution, which calls for consideration of other defensive alternatives.
Rangers linked with Ben Godfrey move
90Min now report that Rangers are one of the clubs showing an interest in Everton defender Ben Godfrey.
It’s stated that Everton are willing to listen to offers for Godfrey in January having fallen down the pecking order under Sean Dyche.
Rangers may pursue a loan move for Godfrey but there is major competition for his signature.
Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are interested in signing Godfrey as they chase homegrown defensive options.
Godfrey is also wanted by Bournemouth, Burnley, and Crystal Palace; the Premier League teams are in a stronger position to make permanent offers.
Although a move to the Rangers is unlikely, this addition would thrill the Ibrox supporters.
Two years later, the 25-year-old truly made an impact, helping Norwich gain promotion to the Premier League and going on to establish himself as a mainstay in the top division.
Everton, thinking they had discovered a star defender of the future, pounced with a £20 million purchase for Godfrey.
Godfrey impressed Carlo Ancelotti, who described him as a “really fantastic” defender who could play anywhere in the back four.
Godfrey, though, has struggled in recent years and has just participated in one minute of Premier League play this year.
Godfrey must play elsewhere, and between now and the summer, Rangers might be able to provide him with a regular first-team opportunity.
