Philippe Clement is unbeaten since taking charge at Rangers; Scott Wright is a doubt for their Europa League game with Sparta Prague at Ibrox; kick-off 8pm
Aiming to build a relentless “machine” at Rangers, Philippe Clement disclosed that Scott Wright is a serious doubt for Thursday night’s Europa League encounter against Sparta Prague.
Wright was injured late in the game while helping Rangers defeat Hearts at Hampden Park on Sunday to advance to this season’s Viaplay Cup final. Wright came off the bench for the team.
Since Clement took over for Michael Beale last month, Rangers have gone undefeated, but the Belgian manager maintains that it is still too early to evaluate the group.
We had a few excellent games and noteworthy wins, and I also think highly of the team’s performance. We were dominant and deserved it; you may win games by being lucky,” he remarked.
“That’s the way I want to see the team play, with a lot of braveness and a lot of aggression with and without the ball.
Though I’m sitting on the couch thinking, ‘now we can let everything loose and the machine will go,’ I’m thrilled with how things are going.
Rangers are currently in third place in Group C, but if they win on Thursday night and Real Betis lose, they might go to the top of the standings.
“European nights are always something special, I love it and I hope for a really positive atmosphere in the stadium,” Clement said.
I want to build a machine, and I believe this group can build a machine that runs continuously, but we’re not there yet.
“To be very clear, I always want a team that always wants to win. If it’s against Prague or Real Madrid it doesn’t matter.
“I want a team who is ambitious and plays to win games so I’m not asking for a draw, but it can be at the end of the campaign that a draw was also important.”
