Texas A&M fans were upset online following a report Saturday night the school was set to hire Mark Stoops as their next head coach. Stoops would be coming to College Station from another SEC school, Kentucky.
The Aggies have had several high names linked to their vacant job after they fired Jimbo Fisher earlier in the month. Instead of landing Ryan Day or Dabo Swinney, the Aggies settled for Fisher’s former defensive coordinator when the two coached together at Florida State.
Stoops left the defensive coordinator gig after the 2012 season to take the Kentucky head coaching job. Stoops had a 73-64 record during his time at Kentucky. He was 33-55 against SEC opponents.
Stoops’ record as a head coach didn’t seem sexy to most Aggies fans Saturday night. Many fans were calling for Ross Bjork, the Aggies athletic director, to be fired for giving Fisher an expensive $77 million buyout to hire Stoops.
