SKY NEWS: The Buffalo Bills officially trade a $40 million wideout to the Dallas Cowboys.

The Buffalo Bills’ season may have been greater if they hadn’t fallen to the Kansas City Chiefs in the postseason. If the front office signs Brandon Cooks in exchange for Mitch Morse from the Dallas Cowboys later this season, that could alter.

Right now, the Bills are looking at a projected $51.8 million cap deficit. In order to compete next season, the team must strengthen its corners, safety, and receiver positions while managing the risk of losing important players like Gabriel Davis and DaQuan Jones to free agency.

Buffalo now faces a dilemma, particularly with regard to veteran center Mitch Morse. Currently in the last year of his agreement. General manager Brandon Beane can explore all free agency options to find the best fit for Morse rather than letting him go to save cap space and getting nothing.

In a dream trade scenario, the Buffalo Bills acquire Brandin Cooks from the Dallas Cowboys.

Luckily, Brandin Cooks is expected to be that player, and the Dallas Cowboys would be wise to trade Buffalo his $40 million contract. Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox elaborates:

Another possible cap casualty is Brandon Cooks, who has a $10 million cap hit. Tyler Biadasz is expected to enter free agency in Dallas, so both teams may gain from a player exchange. In addition to providing Buffalo with a small amount of cap savings, it would add another receiver to complement Stefon Diggs, Knox wrote.

The fact that these two players have contracts that are about to expire makes this a classic win-win situation for the Cowboys and Bills. Josh Allen will have additional tools at his disposal in Buffalo’s attempt to overcome the hump and make it to the Super Bowl the following season.

How both teams resolve their cap space problems is still to be seen. In any event, keep a watch on Cooks and Morse as they may benefit their respective teams in the near future through trades.
