The Los Angeles Lakers are the NBA team with the most superstar players in its history. The list of superstars who have been linked to the team through trade rumors is even larger than the number of players who have worn purple and gold.
While some of these trade rumors—like Pau Gasol in 2008 or Anthony Davis in 2019—actualize, others—like Paul George—never quite work out. In any case, the Lakers are always a contender to be the next big star to carry on the tradition because they are such a historic franchise.
Despite having two superstars in Davis and LeBron James, it seems like the front management is already thinking along those lines.
Donovan Mitchell would cost the Lakers much in exchange.
Even though Mitchell’s value has decreased somewhat with the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Lakers would have to pay a high price to acquire him because he is still a fantastic player. It wouldn’t be unexpected in the slightest to see the Lakers make a major run, though, given the current core’s narrowing title window.
It wouldn’t be a complete surprise if Mitchell were to be traded because there have been trade rumors about him in the not-too-distant past. Do the Lakers have enough, though, to perhaps finish it? We will also analyze the potential details of a Mitchell deal for the Lakers in the pages that follow.
