The Lakers aren’t looking to trade Austin Reaves, but they might be willing to include him in a deal for Dejounte Murray—but only if they receive a greater package.
The Lakers’ disinterest in dealing Austin Reaves has been made quite evident time and time again through a variety of reports. They obviously think highly of him, but it doesn’t sound like he’s invincible.
Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports disclosed several details about the Lakers in his most recent piece, which was published on Thursday. Among them was the rumor that Reaves isn’t being discussed in trade talks. But there was a catch to that.
In addition to the Knicks, Sixers, Heat, and Pistons, Fischer mentioned that the Lakers were among the five teams that might be interested in signing Murray. Furthermore, they are willing to include Reaves in a trade—though it’s unlikely that the Hawks would want to make one.
There appears to be a sizable disparity in valuations at the moment. According to a recent report, the Hawks would need to get Murray in exchange for more than just Reaves and Rui Hachimura. If they’re including Reaves, that’s a far cry from the Lakers expecting more in return.
The Lakers and Hawks still have time, theoretically, to close the gap before the trade deadline, which is in about a month. However, given that starting point, it doesn’t appear likely that a deal will be reached.
